WELKOM – Thabong Employee Health and Wellness (EHW), in conjunction with Thabong SAPS Women’s Network, held a prayer session in support of victims of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide on Friday, 21 November. The session was attended by members from various components of Thabong SAPS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Opening and purpose<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Sergeant Mkhwanazi served as programme director for the day, whilst Warrant Officer (Rev) Ngqungwana opened the session with a powerful prayer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lieutenant Colonel Sello, Chairperson of the Thabong Women’s Network, delivered the purpose statement for the gathering, which was to honour the memory of fallen victims and to stand against Gender-Based Violence whilst affirming support for victims and their families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addressing the root causes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Captain Polori delivered a comprehensive presentation on domestic violence, addressing the various issues contributing to domestic violence in communities. He identified the session as a call for individuals to exercise their responsibility and ensure that women feel safe and are able to move freely without fear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Captain Polori made a passionate plea to those in attendance to speak out and take action to end domestic violence and fight for justice. He emphasised that even the silent cries of victims are witnessed through the number of broken families and those who have lost their lives at the hands of others, noting that domestic violence and Gender-Based Violence affects women, men, and children alike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Memorial observance<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A candlelight vigil and prayer led by Warrant Officer Matsididi was observed during the session. She recited a poem by Michael Kaufman, which calls for violent men to lay down their arms in the war against women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reflection and commitment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Captain Zotwayo reflected upon the memories of all loved ones who have lost their lives and reminded everyone that this session should be viewed as an outcry by the nation. She expressed gratitude to all who attended the prayer session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The gathering served as both a moment of remembrance for victims and a renewed commitment by law enforcement to combat Gender-Based Violence within their community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
