POLICE officers from the Uitenhage Cluster are determined to effectively address crime in their policing area that is in line with the Back to Basics approach of targeted and informed deployment of resources. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is why the South African Police Service in the Uitenhage Cluster are looking for volunteers that want to become reservists. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Uitenhage police spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart, the recruitment of new reservists is based on the operational needs and priorities of SAPS and the need to acquire specialised skills and competencies to ensure that suitable community members are recruited. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe attention of prospective reservists is drawn to the fact that their services are voluntary duties, without any remuneration, and that their position as a reservist does not ensure that they will be appointed if they should apply for a permanent position in SAPS,\u201d said Captain Swart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n The requirements for appointment are as follows and a candidate must comply with the following, basic enlistment requirements:<\/b>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022Be a South African citizen by birth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022Be at least 20, but under 50 years of age, of which documentary proof must be furnished.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022Complete a health questionnaire, at his or her own cost, which is confirmed by a registered medical practitioner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022Be medically, mentally and physically fit to perform duties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022Be of good and sound character.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022Fit the psychometric profile and must successfully complete any other test that may be determined by the National Commissioner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022Be in possession of at least a senior certificate (Grade 12) or must have successfully completed a SAQA accredited NQF level 4 qualification, of which documentary proof must be provided.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022Be able to speak, read and write at least two official languages, of which one must be English.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022Allow his or her fingerprints and a DNA sample to be taken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022Be prepared to undergo such training as may be determined by the National Commissioner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022Be prepared to take the prescribed oath of office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Understand that his or her services may be terminated at the age of 60.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022Complete an assessment questionnaire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022Be vetted or screened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022Candidates who are employed will receive preference. \u2022Proof of employment must be provided.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022Provide proof of his or her residential address.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022Not have a criminal record or any criminal or departmental cases pending against him or her (all criminal or departmental cases must be declared).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022Not have a tattoo which will be visible if the person wears a uniform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022Application forms are available at the nearest police station of residence. The closing date is 31 July 2018. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
