IN an effort to ensure smooth running of services at the Uitenhage Provincial Hospital to be in line with health policies the chief executive officer, Marilyn Klassen, has issued a statement requesting the cooperation of the community to ensure improvement of service delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe have some concerns from the hospital and would like to bring them unto the attention of the public. One of the main messages we would like to get out is the change in visiting hours in adult wards,\u201d said Klassen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Visiting times will change from September 1st in adult wards, with visits allowed only in the afternoon (15:00-16:00) and in the evening (19:15 \u2013 20:00).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cUitenhage Provincial Hosptial strives to be the safest, cleanest and friendliest hospital. We have committed staff that try their best to provide quality services under challenging circumstances,\u201d said Klassen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSecurity and safety of staff is critical. We had a number of incidences where our doctors were robbed on the premises and confronted by criminals that attempted to rob them on their way to the premises. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHealthcare workers were also verbally abused by members of the public and threatened, especially in the Casualty Department.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Klassen primary health care is a priority and patients need first to visit a clinic closest to their homes in order to seek health care before coming to the hospital, unless in case of an emergency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cClinics will refer patients to the hospital if needed and our hospital will refer them to Livingstone and Dora Nginza hospital if further management is needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cPatients are also down-referred to clinics from the hospital if they are stabilized,\u201d said Klassen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A complaint and suggestion system has been implemented at all departments. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is advised to bring any matter of concern immediately unto the attention of management in order for them to deal with it whilst the person is still at the hospital. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
