{"id":53385,"date":"2018-12-20T06:01:40","date_gmt":"2018-12-20T04:01:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/udexpress\/race-in-remembrance-of-legend-20181219-2\/"},"modified":"2025-03-20T21:53:56","modified_gmt":"2025-03-20T19:53:56","slug":"race-in-remembrance-of-legend-20181219-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/udexpress\/race-in-remembrance-of-legend-20181219-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Race in remembrance of legend"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>IN remembrance of motor sport legend and former South African oval track racing champion, the late Atta Victor, a Memorial Race will be held on 26th &amp; 27th December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Atta, the promoter of Victory Raceway passed away on 2 December 2016 after suffering a heart attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Atta started racing in the late 1960s and was a member of the EP stock Car Club. His achievements include being Club Champion, EP Champion and SA Champion in the 4 cylinder as well as V8 classes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Amongst his many cars he had a few 1957 Chevrolets, a MG, 1934 Ford and later built his own V8 winning monster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This former Uitenhage businessman and owner of Custom City, started a panel beating shop \u201cVictor\u2019s Body Works\u201d with his brother Piet in the late 1960s in Embassy Street. This street came to life at night when the two brothers would test their V8s after work!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Atta\u2019s son, Pieta Victor, has followed in his racing tracks and twice was crowned SA champion in the V8 class. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Atta has four grandsons and two, Jake Gillmer and Dennis Basson, take after their grandfather and who knows, might one day also be racing champions?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n <b>Memorial Race \u2013 26 &amp; 27 December<\/b>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oval track racers from Bloemfontein, East London, Oudtshoorn and George will participate in the Memorial Race. The competing classes include Pinkrods, 1660s, 2.1 Modifieds, Heavy Metals and American Saloons. Gates will open at 14:00 and racing starts 18:00. The raceway is situated in Victoria Drive, Port Elizabeth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Admission is R70\/adult, R20\/ child U\/13 whilst parking next to the track is R20\/vehicle.
