{"id":53295,"date":"2019-01-31T06:21:29","date_gmt":"2019-01-31T04:21:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/udexpress\/free-career-guidance-at-expo-20190130-2\/"},"modified":"2025-03-20T22:04:34","modified_gmt":"2025-03-20T20:04:34","slug":"free-career-guidance-at-expo-20190130-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/udexpress\/free-career-guidance-at-expo-20190130-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Free career guidance at expo"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>ONE of South Africa\u2019s biggest career fairs, the Working World Exhibition, will celebrate its historic 20th edition when it takes place from February 26-28 at the Feather Market Centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The expo \u2013 which features around 80 exhibitors from across the country \u2013 will reach up to 15 000 Grade 12s in the Class of 2019 and unemployed youth in the Nelson Mandela Bay metro and surrounds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Inkanyezi Events\u2019 Project Director Wellington Jansen said the milestone 20th event would be hosted with the support of various stakeholders. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCareer guidance resources are essential to curb youth unemployment which is a serious concern in South Africa. Career planning is even more critical as the market place is demanding more sophisticated skills that are aligned with the 4th Industrial Revolution which is changing the shape of the job market,\u201d said Jansen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe expo and its free resources are all about equipping our school-leavers and unemployed youth with insight and opportunity to find meaningful work.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The expo\u2019s partnering organisations include Coega Development Corporation, Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber and Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, Media 24 and Kingfisher FM and the Department of Education.\u2019 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Free resources at the expo include career guidance workbooks, approved by the Department of Education for use in the Gr 12 LO syllabus, a Young Leaders\/prefects seminar and onsite career guidance counselling provided by the Nelson Mandela University. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cQuality Career Guidance is a luxury for many schools and sadly so because the lack of it only contributes to joblessness and our country\u2019s socio-economic ailments,\u2019\u2019 said Jansen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Organised school groups and individual visitors will have the opportunity of speaking with leading employers and educational institutions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event is free to all visitors between 09:00 and 13:00 from Tuesday to
