IN line with a Goodyear global program called GoodLife, Goodyear South Africa last week officially opened an onsite gym facility for its employees at the Uitenhage plant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Goodyear embarked on a journey to make the Goodyear gym a reality a few years ago following a request by employees. This is a free-of-charge access gym facility and with the GoodLife, they aim to maximize the health and well-being of employees at work and at home. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It also aims to build a culture of health and wellness and enable employees to identify easily health-related risks and equip them with the basic tools they need to be able to take appropriate measures to improve their wellbeing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt is important to us as an organization to keep our teams energized and engaged. The gym is part of our engagement strategy to promote wellness and good health amongst our employees,\u201d explains Goodyear South Africa Group Managing Director, Darren Hayes-Powell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n Treadmilling for charity<\/b>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In putting together this gym facility, Goodyear partnered with The Hope Factory to design a programme that enables Goodyear\u2019s Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Programme. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Through this partnership Siwongile Nunu and Bradley Christian are the Goodyear Gym Managers who form part of Goodyear\u2019s Enterprise and Supplier Development Programme called Umthombo Development Programme. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the launch held at the Goodyear Recreation Centre, where the gym is based, employees took to the brand-new treadmills and bicycles to rack up kilometres for charity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
For each kilometre done by an employee, Goodyear South Africa made a donation to their partner school Stephen Nkomo Primary based in KwaNobuhle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In total the employees did 115 kilometres, raising R17 250!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
