AN English third language learner from V\u00e9rit\u00e9 Primary School has been selected as one of the top 20 story writers in the Growsmart Story Writing Competition in the Eastern Cape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nonzaliseko Mjo\u2019s story is about her challenging and difficult personal experience on the road to recovery after she was involved in a serious vehicle accident. Therefore the title of her story is: \u201cThe Scar on my Leg\u201d whereby she motivates others who had been in the same situation that their scars can also be healed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
V\u00e9rit\u00e9 principal, Marlene Lottering said, \u201cEnglish is not our learners\u2019 first language, so what our English educator, Carmen Gertze has achieved to inspire them to participate in this competition I regard as extremely good. We are very proud of Nonzali.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Gertze, \u201cIt is very difficult, actually a mammoth task to get the learners to communicate in English, but through motivation, trust and learners opening up to me, I got the gold.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nonzaliseko is attending a workshop today (Thursday, July 25th)hosted by the publishers, Via Afrika, at Green-acres auditorium. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Her story will be published by Via Afrika in this year\u2019s Growsmart story book. The top three story writing winners will be announced on September 7th. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nonzaliseko has also received the Pick \u2019n Pay Hero of the Month Award. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Carmen Gertze, Grade 6 English educator and story writing mentor, \u201cMany of the school\u2019s learners come from a socio-deprived background and are dependent on the school nutrition programme for a daily balanced meal. It is thus against this background that we take pride in Nonzali\u2019s achievement.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
