A workshop for aspiring writers was hosted in Uitenhage by the Writer\u2019s Guild of South Africa with the aim to focus on two types of writing, namely traditional and new media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Traditiaonal media includes television, screenplay, stage plays and radio whilst new media focusses on webcasting and gaming. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The workshop was facilitated by Adelle Gascoyne from the Guild and titled \u201cActing emotion in screenwriting\u201d. She covered a wide range of human emotions and how to successfully bring this into screenwriting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cFew people understand the dynamics of emotion and the role it plays in conflict,\u201d said Gascoyne. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAs writers, we need to understand what makes people tick to bring realism to our stories and make a positive moral impact on our audience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOne of my practical exercises showed participants how tracking the impact of a single emotion can provide the skeleton for an entire movie or television series. That was a powerful takeaway for everyone.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the attendees, Dr Bongani Lujabe, said: \u201cIt really was practical and empowering skills impartation which created an appetite to learn more.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Parker, a student at Nelson Mandela University, it was a great event and he \u201ccan\u2019t wait to build on my concepts and write a full scene.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The group of aspiring writers will meet once a month on each first Saturday of a month in either Uitenhage or Jeffreys Bay. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
