THE 2019 calendar year was yet another crackerjack year for the Volkswagen Polo and Toyota Hilux. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The former was the most sold model while the latter was the most searched for model in the used car market in South Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These findings are based on an analysis of AutoTrader data for the 2019 calendar year. As the country\u2019s largest automotive digital marketplace, car searches and sales via their platforms are a highly accurate barometer of consumer buying patterns. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to George Mienie, AutoTrader CEO, the data is an effective proxy for the automotive market. He reveals that the Polo and Hilux are strong performers when it comes to both sales and search statistics. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Polo wasn\u2019t only the most sold second-hand car, it was also the sixth most searched for used car in 2019. The Hilux, on the other hand, was the most searched for used car but also sold well, achieving a fourth place on the used car sales chart.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Mercedes-Benz C-Class also featured strongly in both rankings with its arch-rival, the BMW 3 Series, hot on its heels. Confirming the popularity of bakkies in this country, the Ford Ranger was also a top performer in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A top performer in both the search and sales statistics was the Toyota Fortuner. It was the seventh most sold and eighth most searched for vehicle in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Volkswagen was the best performing manufacturer in the used market in 2019, with five appearances in the two lists (most sales and most searched for vehicles).
