Photo: HEILIE COMBRINCK<\/div>\n<div class=\"img_accreditation\"><span class=\"source\" style=\"display:none;\"><\/span><span class=\"photographer\" style=\"display:none;\"><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>DESPITE yet another delay in the launch of the Corkwood Square Mall in Uitenhage, now set to debut in October 2021, residents in the area are still hopeful that the mall will be completed soon to enable job creation and grow the town\u2019s popularity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kobus Fourie, a resident from Fairbridge Heights, Uitenhage said he first noticed the development of the mall when he saw the signboard next to the road close to RVN Properties in May 2019, which indicated that the launch date for the mall was March 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recently, Fourie noticed a new signboard indicating that the launch date for the mall has changed to October 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the delay, he remains hopeful that once construction has been completed and the mall has been opened for business, it will provide job creation and business development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fourie said he is also hopeful that the new mall will bring people in the community together and grow the town\u2019s image and popularity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe new mall will create lots of job opportunities and the comfort of not having to travel extensive distances to get to a centre of this nature will be a big positive. It will also boost the economy and well-being of the town,\u201d said Fourie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI think the community of Uitenhage is very excited as a shopping centre of this nature is most certainly needed in the area and people are looking forward to having their own mall soon.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Holger Peens, CEO of Keystone Investments said owing to the time lost during the COVID-19 nationwide lockdown, they had to move the opening date of the mall from March 2021 to October 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said they have completed the earthworks, retaining structures, infrastructure piping, conduits and piling for the project. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Peens the sections that still need to be completed are effectively all the sections that are above ground and visible. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have appointed the main contractor, GVK-Siya Zama, and construction commenced on October 1. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt has been a long time coming and we are excited to finally get underway,\u201d said Peens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to him, the centre will be anchored by Checkers, Boxer, Dischem and Woolworths. In addition, the centre will also have strong national brands such as Truworths, Mr Price, Mr Price Home, Mr Price Sport, Ackermans, Pep, Pep Home, Pick n Pay Clothing and Tekkie Town. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tenants will be complemented by banks such as FNB, Nedbank, Standard Bank and Capitec. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Peens said the centre will have a full complement of tenants including restaurants and take-away restaurants, service, and specialty tenants. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTo date we have 70% of the tenants confirmed and we expect this number to grow substantially over the next few months now that life looks like it is getting back into the swing of things,\u201d said Peens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The planned mall falls in ward 48 of Nelson Mandela Bay metropole. After multiple attempts, no comment was received from ward 48 councillor Tyrone Adams, when going to print on Tuesday, October 6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For more information
