Four people died in separate incidents when criminals went
\non a shooting, looting and robbery spree in KwaNobuhle on Friday, July 9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the first incident, that occurred at approximately noon,
\na business robbery took place in Sonto Street. Three armed suspects allegedly
\noverpowered a shop owner as he was walking towards his vehicle. After robbing
\nthe owner of money, a scuffle broke out between the shop owner and one of the
\nsuspects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police spokesperson, Capt. Andr\u00e9 Beetge, said that the other
\ntwo suspects started shooting at the two that were scuffling, fatally wounding
\ntheir own accomplice in the process. Sinethemba Leve (31) died on the scene from
\nmultiple gunshot wounds to his upper body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA 9mm pistol was found in the possession of the deceased. The
\nowner escaped unscathed,\u201d Beetge said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an unrelated incident, a little more than two hours later,
\na shop was robbed in Golomi Street, also by three armed suspects. They allegedly
\nentered the shop and demanded money from the shop assistant.  \u201cWhen he refused to hand over any money, the
\nshop was set alight. As the victim ran out, he was shot at several times. Habtamu Bherina (32) succumbed to his
\ninjuries at the scene,\u201d Beetge said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two other incidents took place that night at approximately
\n19:30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beetge explained that two men, aged 27 and 26 years old,
\ndied when one shop was set alight and another looted. \u201cA shop in Bantom Street
\nwas looted by criminals and the owner, Dareba Badol, was also fatally wounded.
\nNkululeko Jonas died of suspected smoke inhalation after his shop was set
\nalight in Pilani Street, KwaNobuhle,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said that quick police response to curb further attacks
\nresulted in police assisting other shops to close and some shop owners were
\nalso escorted out of the area for their own safety. Public Order Police (POP)
\nand the Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) remained in the area to ensure stability and prevent
\nany further acts of criminality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe motive for the attacks is suspected to be criminal in
\nnature and investigations are continuing. Due to swift police intervention,
\ncalm was restored in the area,\u201d Beetge said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Acting District Commissioner, Brig. Thandiswa Kupiso, strongly
\ncondemned these acts of violence and is urging the residents to come forward
\nand assist the police in bringing the perpetrators to justice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSuch merciless acts of criminality on law-abiding citizens
\nwill not be tolerated. The 72-hour-activation plan is implemented and we will
\nbe working around the clock to track, trace and arrest those responsible. These
\ncriminals must be removed from society, therefore, we appeal to the residents
\nto work with us by reporting them,\u201d Kupiso added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Beetge, police are investigating the robberies
\nand murders as isolated incidents and appealing to the communities to assist
