The 46-year-old man went to SAPS Uitenhage on 16 March at about 19:00, claiming that his vehicle, a white Renault that had broken down on the R75 outside Kariega was stolen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEager to solve the case, Uitenhage Crime Prevention members followed up on all leads and with the assistance of a witness, information ultimately led them to the complainant being the offender,\u201d said police spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart. \u201cConfronted with the evidence, the suspect admitted that his vehicle was never stolen and that he had hidden his vehicle in a discreet area and fabricated the incident.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 46-year-old male was arrested and charged with perjury on his appearance in the Kariega Magistrate\u2019s Court last Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The acting Station Commander of SAPS Uitenhage, Colonel Andr\u00e9 Swart commended the team for their excellent investigation skills and for ensuring that those who break the
