A man was arrested in Kariega on Friday after allegedly impersonating a police officer by incorrectly wearing a police uniform and walking around with a toy gun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 30-year-old man was spotted by vigilant Anti-Gang Unit members whilst patrolling in Durban Street. He was allegedly seen wearing a police raincoat without any insignias, a police field dress pants that was not properly worn, safety shoes and a police cap. With the assistance of SAPS Kariega members, AGU members then followed the person, who after becoming aware of their presence, started running and was arrested inside a shop in Gerald Smith Street. A toy firearm was also confiscated.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n Police spokesperson, Col. Priscilla Naidu, said that when the \u201cpolice officer\u201d could not provide his appointment certificate, he was detained on a charge of impersonating a police officer. <\/span>He is expected to \nimpersonator. \u201cMany crimes are committed by criminals who imitate and pose as
\npolice officials. Such behaviour tarnishes the image of the SAPS and results in
\nthe community losing credibility and faith in our men and women in blue. An
\ninternal investigation will also be conducted to ascertain how the suspect was
