School girls from across the province participated in the Eastern Cape Schools Girl Child Dialogue competition hosted by the Amathole Municipality, where Khazimla Adam (16) from Despatch, a Grade 10 learner at Woodridge College, was named the overall winner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe finals were tough, but I represented my school, the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality as well as my Adam family with distinction,\u201d said Khazimla. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The topic of the dialogue was, \u201cIs the South African constitution a living document?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Khazimla said her name means \u201cShine\u201d and that it is a motivation to her to work hard and always shine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI am fortunate to have been exposed to municipal public participation, including the one done by the Department of Social Development where I engaged with honourable members of parliament, raising sensitive issues affecting young people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019m a public speaker with exceptional interpersonal skills, a go-getter, and interested in availing myself to develop in being an ambassador for South Africa.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Apart from being a class captain, she also is the captain of the netball and hockey teams she plays in and she represented the Eastern Cape at netball. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Khazimla encourages young open-minded leaders like herself to join the Nelson Mandela Bay Junior City Council and help bring along positive change that is desperately needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
