Throughout the mid-year school holidays, parents, learners, and staff from College Hill Preparatory School have been preparing for Mandela Day and their extraordinary \u201967 Minutes for Change\u2019 initiative on Tuesday, July 18, International Nelson Mandela Day, and the lunch bag is part of Madiba Day \u2018Bag a Lunch\u2019 Campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Named the \u2018Bag-a-Lunch\u2019 campaign, learners and staff were requested to bring along and donate one or more additional \u2018healthy school lunches\u2019 which would be collected and distributed to less fortunate learners at a local community feeding scheme. Each lunch was to consist of a sandwich, a piece of fruit, a mini yoghurt, and a juice box.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The enthusiastic learners decorated the lunch bags with their colourful artwork and handwritten messages. The nearly 700 packed lunches were then collected and packed into the school\u2019s large transporter, filling it to capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Accompanied by staff, an emissary of learner representatives, from across College Hill\u2019s five grades, their first stop was the Mula Shop Feeding Scheme, currently located in Gerald Smith, where over 400 care bags are delivered. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
A further 200 packed lunches were distributed to the learners at Kruisrivier Primary School, whilst a further 40 were gifted to less fortunate preschoolers at the Mickey Mouse creche in Gerald Smith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mula Recycling Shop and Feeding Scheme Chairperson, Quinette Goosen, addressed the gathered College Hill learners after the handover. \u201cThank you. What you have delivered here is such a huge blessing. And this will have such an incredible impact on the lives of so many children.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
