I\u2019ve always been drawn to challenges that push me to grow personally and make a positive impact. The Mr South Africa 2024 competition caught my attention because it aligns with my belief in using platforms like this to amplify important messages and contribute to meaningful causes. It\u2019s about stepping up and being a voice for issues that matter, whether it\u2019s promoting gender equality, advocating against violence, or inspiring others from all walks of life to pursue their dreams relentlessly. That\u2019s what inspired me to enter; the opportunity to make a difference and inspire positive change.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n What has been the most challenging part of the competition so far?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe most challenging part of the competition has been trying to find businesses with which to collaborate in my endeavour. The competition needed me to find at least five companies with which to collaborate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n How have you prepared for the competition, both physically and mentally?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI\u2019ve prepared for this competition with a steadfast commitment to both mental and physical readiness. Mentally, I\u2019ve cultivated a strong belief in myself and my capabilities, constantly reminding myself of the effort and dedication I\u2019ve put in to reach this point. Despite setbacks, my confidence remains unwavering, thanks in part to my regular meditation practice which keeps my mind calm and focused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThis year, I\u2019ve also found solace and enrichment through reading, tackling challenging books like Niccol\u00f2 Machiavelli\u2019s The Prince <\/span>to sharpen my vocabulary and enhance my ability to articulate ideas effectively. This, as well as my years as a model at Sophisticate Models, has equipped me to handle any questions thrown my way during the competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cPhysically, I prioritise my cardiovascular fitness with daily walks around my neighbourhood after work. For me, feeling fit and energised is paramount, reflecting a deeper commitment to overall well-being rather than mere physical appearance. This holistic approach ensures I\u2019m not only prepared but poised to give my best performance in every aspect of the competition.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n What do you believe sets you apart from the other contestants?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI believe that what makes me stand out from the rest is my rock-solid self-belief, my inquisitive and imaginative mind, and a motto I\u2019ve carried since I was at a tender age: \u201cSecond to None,\u201d straight from my alma mater, Muir College Boys\u2019 High School. It\u2019s my guiding star in all I take on, ensuring I give nothing less than my absolute best. Beyond that, my empathy and sharp eye for detail enable me to pinpoint our nation\u2019s challenges, channelling my creativity not just to dwell on problems but to craft solutions. I\u2019m a natural-born troubleshooter.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n How do you plan to use the platform of Mr South Africa to make a positive impact in your community and beyond?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cAs Mr South Africa, I see an opportunity to amplify the voices of those who aren\u2019t heard, which is something I\u2019ve been passionate about as a journalist. Hailing from Gqeberha, recently dubbed the most dangerous city in South Africa, I\u2019ve made it my mission to shed light on these incidents, hoping to raise awareness and keep people vigilant. This isn\u2019t just about personal gain; it\u2019s about fulfilling a greater duty to our nation. Winning this competition would mean becoming a role model for future generations, a responsibility I take seriously.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Can you tell us about a cause or issue you are passionate about and how you would use your title to support it?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI\u2019ve always felt a strong commitment to curb violence against women and children. Many women have asked me what I\u2019m doing to combat gender-based violence, and for a long time, I haven\u2019t had a satisfying answer. Although I never condoned GBV, to me, not acting felt like silently endorsing it. I think about my mother and my sister and ask myself, \u2019What if it happened to them?\u2019 That\u2019s why I feel compelled to do my part, whether it\u2019s sharing survivors\u2019 stories or educating others about GBV. Doing something, anything, is better than waiting for someone else to act. Let me be clear, supporting women\u2019s empowerment isn\u2019t about diminishing men\u2019s roles; it\u2019s not an either-or situation. Both are important, and both deserve our attention and support.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n How do you stay motivated and focused amid the pressures of the competition?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI have an amazing support system that I can go to when I want to bounce ideas around, and they also allow me the opportunity to share my concerns and thoughts without fear or judgement. Not only that, but I meditate daily which helps me centre my thoughts. Although I want to say that I do a lot in this regard, I cannot because I don\u2019t. I strongly believe that the effort I put in is enough to guarantee me success no matter what that success looks like. Lastly, I always talk to myself, giving myself positive words of encouragement, reassuring myself that I am capable of anything I set my mind to.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n If you advance to the top 10, what are your plans and goals for the next stage of the competition?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI will use the platform that I have in the media industry to amplify my cause like women advocacy. I aim to volunteer my free time more towards the Women for Change NPO as I believe strongly in their mandate. I do not intend to do only that, but I also aim to use my free time in advertising for companies in my city to improve the digital footprint of said companies to the larger South Africa, while creating traffic towards the city.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n What message would you like to convey to those who are considering voting for you?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI want to say thank you to everyone who\u2019s shown interest and support. This competition isn\u2019t just about me, it\u2019s about representing our community and the values we stand for. As we draw closer to the Top 10 selection on August 17, where votes play a large role in making the next round, I hope the readers see my plea for action and exercise their ability to make sure a Kariega-born resident does well on a national stage. The winner will represent South Africa in the Mr Universe competition in Los Angeles. I am determined to bring the city that raised me with me to the top and drive traction toward the windy city, Gqeberha.
