THE Sundays River Valley Municipality recently marked the official opening of the swimming pool at Nqweba (formerly Kirkwood), heralding the start of the summer season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Scores of eager children excitedly dived into the cool waters, under the watchful eye of the municipality\u2019s Executive Mayor, Councillor Solethu Lucas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his address, Mayor Lucas emphasised the importance of safety for all visitors, particularly children. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe want you all to come and swim here safely and not go to the canals where you could drown,\u201d he warned, highlighting the municipality\u2019s commitment to child safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The mayor also took the opportunity to congratulate learners who have successfully advanced to the next grade level after receiving their academic reports. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYour achievements are commendable, and we are proud of your hard work,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Councillor Karen Smith, who is the Portfolio Chairperson for Community Services and Public Safety, praised the efforts of municipal employees who worked diligently to ensure the pool\u2019s timely opening. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI am proud of all the teams who worked tirelessly to ensure that the pool opens today,\u201d she said. Smith also urged parents to supervise their children and encouraged everyone visiting the pool to help maintain its cleanliness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Smith emphasised, \u201cIt\u2019s also important to know that alcohol is strictly not allowed at this facility. Please be safe, enjoy the facility, please help us keep it clean, and enjoy your festive season.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The swimming pool will remain open throughout the summer season, welcoming children and adults alike to enjoy its facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In related news, the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has announced the official opening of its swimming pools from December 16, 2024 to March 16, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Among these, the Rosedale swimming pool in Kariega will also open its doors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
NMBM Spokesperson Sithembiso Soyaya revealed plans to resurrect the \u201cLearn to swim\u201d programme across all eight pools, ensuring they are staffed with both permanent and seasonal lifeguards. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
