KARIEGA <\/strong>– What began as an emergency response to Kariega’s ongoing water crisis has led to a life-changing intervention for a local family, after community volunteer Haylee Gee and disaster relief organisation Gift of the Givers delivered a wheelchair to a bedridden man in need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For nearly five weeks, Gee and her Bomb Squad Team have worked alongside Gift of the Givers to provide daily water relief to affected residents. During one such distribution, the team encountered the Jansen family, where daughter Diane explained that her father, Daniel Jansen, had suffered two strokes and was completely bedridden.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Without a wheelchair, the family faced ongoing challenges in moving him, assisting with daily care, and accessing medical treatment.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moved by the situation, Gee contacted Gift of the Givers, which responded by supplying a wheelchair, along with a care package and a warm blanket.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The family appreciated this gesture and conveyed their emotional gratitude to the team and Gift of the Givers,” said Gee.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reflecting on the encounter, she said the crisis had revealed deeper needs within the community. “God used the water crisis in Kariega to open my eyes to the need in our community. It is impossible to assist everybody, but we are grateful for the help of Gift of the Givers. They not only supply water daily but also tend to the needs of residents.”\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gee described working with the organisation as a privilege, highlighting its holistic approach to relief efforts.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As water shortages persist, teams remain on the ground, continuing to support residents; demonstrating that beyond immediate aid, small acts of care can restore dignity and hope to vulnerable families.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
