\nresidents were caught in the crossfire between rival gangs during a shootout in
\nVlamboom Street on Tuesday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
A
\nlocal councillor has come forward to recall how he and residents resorted to
\nleopard crawling as bullets flew over their heads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ward
\ncouncillor Angus Mckenzie says he was called to the area by concerned residents
\nwho were worried about the ongoing gang violence. He arrived just before 19:00
\nand says the body of a man could be seen in the street, as well as police
\nvehicles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mckenzie
\nsays a crowd had gathered, but the shooting continued and gangsters started
\nhurtling stones. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe
\nguys started shooting and I leopard crawled to find a safe place. A woman saw
\nme and opened her gate so I could enter her home. You could feel the tension
\nand I could hear bullets whistle past me. This morning many residents have
\nreported bullet holes in their homes,\u201d he says. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nsays the Metro Police gangs unit was called in to assist police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bishop
\nLavis police spokesperson, Captain Marie Louw, says a 25-year-old man was shot
\nin Vlamboom Street amid violence between the Hard Livings and Red Devils gangs.
\nShe says while attending to the crime scene, the gangs started hurtling stones
\nand opened fire, with many caught in the crossfire. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe
\nare calling on all residents to stay away from crime scenes and stay indoors
\nwhen there are shootings. They make the situation very difficult to diffuse as
\nthe police also now have to ensure that the large crowds of people are
\nsafe,\u201d Louw says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe
\nincident is linked to ongoing gang shootings in Bonteheuwel and police are
\ninvestigating a case of attempted murder,\u201d she says. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Metro
\nPolice chief, Wayne le Roux, says their gangs unit will assist as the need
\narises. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
