An inmate was stabbed to death and more than 13 others seriously injured when a gang ritual fight broke out at Goodwood Prison on Monday night (12 June). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to a statement released by the Department of Correctional Services, off-duty wardens staying on the premises awoke to the unusual sound of a distress loudhailer (megaphone), prompting them to rush to the correctional facility. They used minimum force to separate the warring members of the 26s and 28 gangs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A 32-year-old offender was stabbed to death, whilst 13 others were seriously injured. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The statement says the Western Cape Regional Commissioner, Delekile Klaas, arrived at the scene only to discover blood all over the floor. Some of the self-made weapons confiscated by wardens were piled up in one corner of the facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
