{"id":58270,"date":"2017-07-05T17:55:53","date_gmt":"2017-07-05T15:55:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/tygerburger\/spca-sting-operation-saves-princess-20170705\/"},"modified":"2025-03-19T18:22:17","modified_gmt":"2025-03-19T16:22:17","slug":"spca-sting-operation-saves-princess-20170705","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/tygerburger\/spca-sting-operation-saves-princess-20170705\/","title":{"rendered":"SPCA sting operation saves Princess"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div>The <a href=\"https:\/\/capespca.co.za\" target=\"_blank\">Cape of Good Hope SPCA <\/a>will be laying charges of animal cruelty against the perpetrators who sell Pitbull puppies with cropped ears.<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The charges will be laid as soon as enough evidence has been gathered, said the spokesperson Belinda Abraham.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>One Pitbull puppy named Princess was saved during the operation.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div contenteditable=\"false\" data-embed24=\"Blockquote\" data-pos=\"left\" id=\"b3cfcb1b\">\n<div class=\"text\">Princess is well taken care of, has had a thorough vet check and is receiving a lot of love.<\/div>\n<div class=\"citation\">Belinda Abraham<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>An evening sting operation took place on 29 June at the Tyger Valley Centre following a tip-off regarding Pitbull puppies being sold with cropped ears.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cThe evidence obtained suggested contraventions of the Animals Protection Act 71 of 1962. The SPCA stands opposed to the mutilation of animals for cosmetic reasons, which includes but is not limited to ear cropping,\u201d said Abraham.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>She said it is believed that the puppy seller and a friend were responsible for the cropping the puppies\u2019 ears.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cThis is a procedure which we have no doubt resulted in a great deal of pain and suffering for Princess (as she\u2019s now been named) as it was likely to have been carried out in the absence of anesthetic,\u201d Abraham said.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>Princess is well taken care of, has had a thorough vet check and is receiving a lot of love.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\u201cWe would like to extend our thanks to the concerned member of the public who reported this crime and&nbsp;Tyger Valley Centre for their cooperation and support during this
