A dog in Durbanville was shot several times by a neighbour after it got out of its property and allegedly attacked the man\u2019s dog on Monday evening (30 October).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Durbanville police spokesperson, Captain Marchell Rhode, says the shooting happened around 19:12 in Portulaca Avenue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAccording to information provided to police, the owner of the dog, a Pitbull, opened the wrong gate of her property when the dog got out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Pitbull ran to the house opposite them and apparently attacked a dog there. The neighbour got a firearm and shot the dog five times.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A neighbour who spoke to TygerBurger<\/em> on condition of anonymity said the Pitbull and the neighbour\u2019s dog were fighting each other through the gate of the property. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe dogs were behind the gate, there was no danger to the man\u2019s family, surely the man could have done something other than shoot the dog,\u201d the neighbour said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It is alleged that the man\u2019s wife went inside the house, got a firearm and gave it to her husband to shoot the dog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The dog died on the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Niel de Villiers from the neighbourhood watch said he heard the gunshots from his house. He said he had also heard that the dogs were fighting each other through the closed gate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe matter is still under investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n TygerBurger<\/em> visited the area on Tuesday morning and the owner of the dog that was shot, was not at home at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n When we went to the house of the man who shot the dog, a woman who confirmed to be their houseworker said both he and his wife were not home. TygerBurger<\/em> was able to hear and see people talking inside the house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The houseworker said the woman had taken their own dog to the vet and the husband was out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The helper said she could not give any details on the matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Police on Tuesday confirmed a case of discharging a firearm in a municipal area was being investigated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The case is still under investigation, TygerBurger<\/em> heard. <\/p>\n\n\n\n It is alleged that the man\u2019s wife went inside the house, got a firearm and gave it to her husband to shoot the
