An off-duty police officer, who was attacked by three men while walking in Goodwood on Wednesday evening, 28 February, shot and killed one of the suspects. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Goodwood police Colonel SA Mntambo, the incident happened around 21:00 in Dingle Road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOne suspect jumped out of a grey Toyota bakkie and stabbed the officer twice in the back. The officer then took his duty pistol and shot the suspect twice.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He says the 20-year-old suspect was declared dead on arrival at a nearby hospital. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe other two suspects, aged 18 and 19, were later arrested when they returned to the scene,\u201d Mntambo said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring says paramedics were called to the scene at 21:20 by the local authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cUpon arrival, paramedics found a man lying in the middle of the road. Assessments showed that the man had sustained a gunshot wound to his head, leaving him in a critical condition.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He says treatment and advanced life support interventions were immediately initiated in an effort to stabilise the man\u2019s condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Once treated, the man was transported to Tygerberg Hospital for further care where he later died.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
