\naddress the proliferation of illegal firearms in the Elsies River precinct
\nresulted in the arrest of two suspects. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nwere caught on Sunday 22 April after being chased by police members between
\nGoodwood and Elsies River.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
\npolice members were pursuing the suspects, the latter started shooting at the
\npolice, but the members retaliated and chased them up to the Maitland Cemetery,
\nwhere the two suspects were caught and two firearms recovered from their
\npossession. One suspect was injured during the shootout. Both firearms were
\nreported stolen in 2012 and 2015,\u201d says Western Cape police spokesperson,
\nCaptain Frederick van Wyk.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nsuspects, aged 18 and 33, will appear in the Goodwood Magistrate\u2019s Court once
\ncharged for the possession of unlicensed firearms, attempted murder, possession
\nof presumably stolen property and discharging a firearm in a municipal area.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nWyk says police members were applauded for their sterling efforts in ensuring
\nthe arrest of the suspects so that they can face the full might of the law.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
