The City of Cape Town\u2019s Fire and Rescue Service is still
\ntrying to determine what the cause of a gas explosion was in Proton Road,
\nBelhar on Wednesday 19 September. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Four firefighters are still recovering after they were
\ninjured in the gas cylinder explosion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The incident occurred around 05:00 on the premises of the
\nNorthlink campus, at a building hired by a private company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Spokesperson Theo Layne told TygerBurger the fire started
\namong wood stored next to a steel container: \u201cAs in most instances, the contents
\nof the buildings or structures are not known or reported unless it is during
\noffice hours and the caller is calling from the actual incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cRadiated heat then spread to the steel container and
\nignited the personal protective equipment, which then spread to where the
\nliquid petroleum gas was stored,\u201d Layne said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe cylinder overheated and exploded.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Layne said gas cylinders are reasonably safe when not
\naffected by fire, but in this case the cylinders were stored in an area where
\nit overheated because of the fire. \u201cThe exact cause of the fire must still be
