\nSchool Governing Body and an administrative assistant, is among the partners
\nwho breathed life into a new reading club and library at the school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Anthea Scott met with TygerBurger last week to share in the
\ninitiative of having a library at the school. \u201cAs a child, I used to love
\nreading. After attending a training course with the Nal\u2019ibali Organisation, I
\nstarted helping my children at home with reading. They are now passionate
\nreaders and invite their friends over to read with them,\u201d says Scott.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Scott explains that at the training which she attended,
\ntrainees were taught how to assist children with reading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After the training, which she says Vergenoegd Primary
\nprincipal, Jonathan Goodall, encouraged her to attend, Scott informed the
\nprincipal that she would like to start her own book club at home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI mentioned that to Mr Goodall, then afterwards everything
\njust fell into place resulting in the decision to create a library at the
\nschool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe then received our first batch of book donations from the
\nGood Deeds Foundation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Scott says she feels it\u2019s important that they have a library
\nat the school. \u201cWith a library at the school, the learners don\u2019t need to walk
\nfar distances [from Voorbrug to Delft Library] because it\u2019s not safe anymore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe have encyclopaedias available as well so when learners
\nneed to do research for projects they can come sit here.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not only is it a library, but Scott says two weeks ago she
\nstarted a reading club which takes place every Wednesday from 14:00 to 15:00.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe intention is to broaden the love for reading in our
\nschool.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She says the Nal\u2019ibali Organisation encouraged the school to
\nget at least 12 learners into the reading club, but they have exceeded that
\nnumber: \u201cWe ended up getting 22 learners who are very excited about reading
\nnow.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Scott says another aim of the library and the reading club
\nis to instil confidence in the learners who battle to read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSome children are shy to read in front of their class so we
\nwant them to become confident and also in the process encourage parents to
\nbecome part of the reading journey by helping their children.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Scott is appealing for book donations for the school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are still in need of more books and would appreciate any
