More than 500 matric learners from ward 11 gathered at the
\nWestern Cape Sport School in Kuils River on Sunday 16 September for a
\nmatriculant readiness and motivational event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event was hosted by ward 11 councillor Desiree Visagie
\nas a means of wishing the learners well before writing their final examinations
\nwhich start on Monday 22 October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the run-up to the event Visagie extended more than 700
\ninvitations to learners in ward 11.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSo many learners and teachers from schools outside the ward
\ncontacted me to request whether they could attend but unfortunately we could
\nnot host everyone. I could sense that the need for information and motivation
\nwas there and it was amazing to see more than 500 learners attend on a Sunday
\nafternoon. We can be proud of our ward\u2019s matriculants because of their
\ndedication to their education and future,\u201d says Visagie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The programme presented a melting pot of the talent of the
\nlocal learners, the sharing of relevant information by City officials to ensure
\nthat the learners stay safe while writing their exams, as well as the provision
\nof study tips. Motivational speakers were present to encourage the matriculants
\nto put their best foot forward in the coming examinations. Each learner also
\nreceived a stationery start-up pack to ensure they have the necessary materials
\nwhilst writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Visagie says the highlight of the event for her was the talk
\nby learning and development specialist Malcolm Hendricks, who informed learners
\nwhere to seek help and assistance when feeling overwhelmed during the
\nexamination period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI would like to host such an event annually. Maybe even
\nhave two \u2013 one at the beginning of the year to provide some information on how
\nto study, and then one towards the end of the year to motivate the matriculants
\nfor the upcoming examinations,\u201d says Visagie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She wishes the local learners well for their exams. \u201cThis is
\nan important milestone, laying the foundation for your future education pursuits.
\nYour success is dependent on effective time management, smart studying
\ntechniques, a balanced diet and regular exercise. I encourage parents and
\nsiblings to play a role by ensuring that the home environment is conducive to
\nstudying,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
