A highspeed chase through Brackenfell ended in luxury
\nKleinbron Estate last night, where a man and a woman were arrested in
\nconnection with motor vehicle theft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The vehicle, a White Bantam bakkie, was reported stolen in
\nWoodstock yesterday afternoon, but picked up by Licence Plate Recognition (LPR)
\ncameras in Northpine last night at about 23:00.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSoon after two SJC vehicles found the vehicle and started
\nfollowing it out of Northpine down Old Paarl Road towards Brackenfell, where it
\nturned right into Brackenfell Boulevard,\u201d says Johan Le Roux, senior shift
\nmember of SJC\u2019s armed response unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At this point the driver of the vehicle was not aware that
\nhe was being followed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe kept our distance behind him in Brackenfell Boulevard
\nand when a police vehicle turned onto the road a block away from Brackenfell
\nPolice Station, we signalled the officer to turn around. At this point the
\ndriver realised he was being followed and sped away to turn right onto the N1
\nat Vredekloof,\u201d says Le Roux.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A high speed chase ensued down the N1 and back onto Okavango
\nRoad and over two red traffic lights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAt Belami Road the vehicle turned left and then right into
\nthe entrance of Kleinbron Estate, where he crashed through the entry boom
\ngates,\u201d says Le Roux.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Once inside the estate, the SJC and police vehicles split up
\nto corner the suspect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe police vehicle followed him down Mahonie Street, while
\nwe took the top road up the estate that links up with Mahonie,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The suspect sped into a pavement at a high speed which
\ndamaged the vehicle\u2019s front wheel and brought it to a halt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe driver jumped out of the vehicle, through an open
\nwindow of a house, through the house out into the backyard where he jumped the
\nestates electric fence and got away on foot\u201d says Le Roux.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The two passengers, a man and a woman were arrested by
\nBrackenfell police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
