Two police constables and three civilians were arrested for
\ntheft of motor vehicles and the possession of implements used in burglaries
\nlast night by vigilant officers of the Bellville police Station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut, provincial police spokesperson, says police officers spotted two suspicious
\nvehicles at around 22:30, a Volkswagen Caddy and a marked police Opel Corsa in
\ntheir area. Both vehicles were followed until they stopped at a residence in De
\nGrendel Avenue, Parow North. At this stage, the occupants of the vehicles
\nbecame aware of the police presence and fled the area. They were pursued and
\nwith the assistance of police backup, both vehicles were forced to stop. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Traut says the caddy, an official police vehicle, was driven
\nby a police constable and he had two civilian passengers. The Opel Corsa, also
\nan official police vehicle, was driven by a civilian and his passenger was a
\npolice constable. Both vehicles were fitted with cloned registration number
\nplates and it was established that the vehicles were taken from police premises
\nwithout the necessary authorisation. The suspects aged between 30 and 35 were
\narrested after they were also found in possession of a crowbar, cable ties and
\ngloves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They are expected to make a court appearance on Monday in
\nBellville to face charges of theft of motor vehicles, possession of house
\nbreaking implements and theft of number plates. Their involvement in house
\nrobbery cases are also being investigated as one of the vehicles was seen
\nfleeing the scene of a house robbery in Durbanville earlier this month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
