The week before the schools closed for 2021 the Glenwood Neighbourhood Watch (NWH) received a flyer, circulated from Goodwood Park Primary, requesting assistance for Elnor Primary School in Elsies River.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe flyer requested assistance for the school that is in desperate need of stationery for the Grade 1 educators for 2022. The school is situated in an area that is plagued by violence, substance abuse, gangsterism and child neglect and we as the Glenwood NHW decided to make a difference in a young child\u2019s life,\u201d says James Ellis, chair of the Glenwood NHW.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Parents of the learners are unemployed and cannot supply the necessary. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The committee of the Glenwood NHW felt that this was a worthy project for them to become involved in and funds were made available for this project. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe shared the request with our fellow neighbourhood watches in the precinct, as well as the residents of Glenwood. Immediately Monte Vista, Plattekloof and Glen Neighbourhood Watch came on board. We also received various pledges from the community. We then made contact with Elnor Primary\u2019s headmaster, Mark Agulhas, to have the stationery delivered on 21 December. Without a doubt Agulhas and his deputy were pleasantly surprised by the quantity and quality delivered to the school and requested that their sincere appreciation be conveyed to everybody who was involved in this initiative,\u201d says Ellis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt is a very humbling experience for us who visited the school, a great comfort and pleasure was taken away with us. It is heart-warming to know that we made a small difference in a young child\u2019s life. Any of these learners could potentially be our future leaders. From the bottom of our hearts we would like to commend and thank everybody who saw their way clear to be part of this stationery project.
