Those travelling on Carl Cronje Drive between the Tyger Valley Shopping Centre and Willowbridge Shopping Centre at night should plan accordingly, as the City of Cape Town plans to resurface the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The work started on Monday and is being conducted on the stretch between Carl Cronje Drive between Bill Bezuidenhout Avenue and Old Oak Road in Bellville.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCarl Cronje Drive is an important road in Bellville and I am excited that we will be undertaking maintenance along this section of the road which covers a distance of approximately 660 m at an average width of 11 m. The resurfacing and associated work will take about three weeks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThus, if all goes as planned, the local residents should be able to benefit from the maintenance by the end of February,\u201d says the City\u2019s Mayco member for transport, Rob Quintas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The work will take place at night between 20:00 and 05:00, Monday to Saturday, to limit the impact on road users and traffic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The City says the roadworks are part of general routine maintenance \u201cand in keeping with the City\u2019s commitment to delivering basic services that will improve and facilitate the movement of people and goods\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both the northbound and southbound carriageways will be resurfaced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are working hard to ensure that Cape Town\u2019s roads are well-maintained and safe to walk and drive on. An efficient economy requires a well maintained road network and infrastructure so that people and goods can move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe work will be implemented at night to keep disruption to the absolute minimum. Furthermore, we do not anticipate road closures and traffic will be managed by closing one lane at a time, as and when necessary. However, like with any other road project, residents can expect a level of noise pollution during the construction period. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThus, we appeal to residents and motorists to bear with us and to use alternative routes while construction is underway. I also appeal to residents and motorists to comply with the signage around the construction area so that we can complete the project without disruptions or delays.
