The busy new traffic circle on the corner of Darwin and Dan King Streets in Kraaifontein will be added to a service list of the City\u2019s traffic departement following complaints of speeding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

City spokesperson for traffic Maxine Bezuidenhout says this list contains standing complaints from the public about speeding in locations with high accident rates. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This follows after resident Nick Joubert who lives on this street corner said he would have to cordon off a part of Darwin Street in front of his house, where speeding and high volumes of traffic make it impossible to enter or exit his driveway almost throughout the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joubert says he and other residents at the new traffic circle were not consulted before construction which constituted bad road planning on behalf of the City to the detriment of residents<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last week, the City responded to a media enquiry from TygerBurger<\/em> saying that officials and engineers had met with Joubert to discuss his concerns and that various options were discussed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe implementation of a raised pedestrian crossing on Dan King Road has been accepted by the various City departments to address limited sight towards the access positions. Final preparations and planning to implement this is currently underway. Other options are currently being workshopped while the project engineers and internal departments will be provided with further recommendations,\u201d says Rob Quintas, Mayco member for urban mobility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quintas adds that the contractor is still on site, and although the majority of the work is completed, there is still some minor work outstanding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe speed limit will be 60 km\/h and signs have been installed since 28 January. It is important to note that a public participation process was conducted to give residents and interested and affected parties an opportunity to submit comments and objections prior to the commencement of the work. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
