A total of 29 taxis were impounded in Goodwood in January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This came after the chair of the Goodwood Residents\u2019 and Ratepayers\u2019 Associaton (GRRA) Faizel Petersen lodged a complaint with the City\u2019s transport enforcement unit in Goodwood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe taxi issue in Goodwood is still an ongoing concern and in my correspondence with Eugene Louw, chief inspector of traffic operations, he sent me an email from the traffic department showing what they have been doing in terms of enforcement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOn Thursday 20 January, nine taxis were impounded and taxi drivers committed 426 offences. On Friday 28 January, 20 taxis were impounded and 459 offences were committed,\u201d Petersen says. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his correspondence Louw says the complaint is attended to on an ad-hoc basis as the transport enforcement unit covers the entire City of Cape Town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhen we complained about the illegal taxis and taxi ranks in the residential area, we as the GRRA suggested that the bus stops on Jakes Gerwel Drive be utilised as a drop-and-go area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIn my correspondence with Louw he said the City\u2019s urban mobility department is in the process of planning embayments for a drop-and-go section on Jakes Gerwel Drive, and that his department will keep me posted on any further developments,\u201d says Petersen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Subsequent to the last traffic operation, there has been a \u201csemi protest\u201d by taxi operators that took place at the Libertas building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
