Local franchise owner wins two awards"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Pretoria-based franchise group, Gunret Foods, is celebrating two award wins at the recent KFC Africa Franchise Summit \u2013 an event that celebrates franchise partners and their outstanding performances.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was a tough year, but resilience and perseverance paid off for owner Alex Gunning as the franchise group took home two of the top awards for Operator of the Year 2021 and Digital Leader for 2021.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;<br>\u201cI am very proud of the Gunret team and how we have operated at such high standards through very difficult trading conditions,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have remained focused and relevant in tough times, adapting to the changing environment in which we operate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gunret Foods is a KFC franchisee that owns and operates 42 KFC outlets, the majority of which are in Gauteng, with others in Rustenburg (8) and Cape Town (8). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Cape Town stores are in Durbanville, Welgemoed, Oakdale, Milnerton, Tyger Valley Mall, Sun Valley, Hout Bay and Paarl Mall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first outlet was acquired in 1985 and has since grown from strength to strength.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The founder Burt Gunning who passed away last year built the multi-franchise business from one store 37 years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBeing the best is a team effort, we win together, and we celebrate achievements as a team.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis only happens when every person in the organisation works towards excellence.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGunret has continued this legacy left by founder Burt Gunning,\u201d says Chief Operations Officer Paul Roos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group is on an expansion drive with several new stores planned and has recently opened KFC Rivonia Boulevard on 1 March with another new store planned for 24 March in Waverley Plaza in Pretoria.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are plans to expand further with stores to open soon in Hebron Mall, Brooklyn, Willow Park, Saxby Corner, Mankwe (Mogwase)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gunret Foods has won top franchisee in South Africa multiple times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gunret Foods always strives for the highest standards which result in a high level of customer service.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The franchise group was one of nine franchises in the world nominated to represent Africa in 2018 as Operator of the Year at the KFC International Franchise Awards in Orlando, United States out of 23 000 restaurants and 28 countries in the world.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This was a great honour for the company and KFC South Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the recent outstanding achievements have been:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>2021 Operator of the Year Award<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2021 Digital Leader Award<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2020 Representing Africa at the International Franchise Convention<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2019 Franchise of the Year winner<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2019 People Grower of the Year winner<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2019 Culture Champion in Training<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>With a strong focus on people internally and externally \u2013 Gunret always delivers on its promise of customer service, operational excellence, compliance, training, people growth, development, and a commitment to be the best<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group currently employs over 1 300 staff members and has been able to continue trading well through turbulent economic times over the years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The franchise feels that it has a responsibility to give back to the community \u2013 the group currently has five charities it supports directly through the KFC Add Hope programme as well as school support with sponsorships.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gunret Foods is also involved in the KFC Mini Cricket
