The head boy of Curro Durbanville High School was among seven South African scientists who competed in the world\u2019s largest pre-college science competition in the USA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dashayin Gilbert, a Grade 11 learner, impressed with his research into the aerodynamics of Formula 1 cars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They took part in the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (Isef) and the Broadcom Masters International Programme in Atlanta in Georgia from 7 to 13 May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dashayin, a Formula 1 racing enthusiast, combined his passion with his problem-solving aptitude to investigate the aerodynamics of the cars used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After investigating a number of variables, Dashayin made several significant findings that help the understanding of the factors that contribute to improving the aerodynamics of Formula 1 cars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dashayin\u2019s project fell under the category of physics, astronomy and space science, the sub-category being theoretical physics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Learners showcased their scientific brilliance following their achievements in the 2021 Virtual Eskom Expo International Science Fair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There were 1 410 exhibits from this year\u2019s 1 750 Isef finalists from 63 countries, regions and territories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The selected projects that were entered in the competition range from Dashayin\u2019s to an efficient and cost-effective diagnostic system that can autonomously detect respiratory diseases.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
