To mark Children\u2019s month in June, police last week visited several cr\u00e8ches in the Brackenfell policing area reaching some 354 young children with the all important medical, road and fire safety messages. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
With their theme Superhero, the little ones were eager to dress up as their favourite heroes as they learned valuable lessons from officers of police and emergency units.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Monday the police\u2019s mounted unit visited Snippie Snuiter where the children admired mounted unit horse Leo while attently listening to tales told by Sgt. Johannes Venter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Tuesday the City metro police\u2019s K9 unit went to Bambino with three sniffer dogs to show the children how the dogs sniff out drugs and ammunition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Titanium Ambulance services visited Splendid Kids on Wednesday where paramedic Kobus Kotze showed the children the inside of an ambulance and demonstrated the work they do in cases of emergency. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Next was Curro Castle on Thursday where traffic officers spoke to the children about road safety. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Topics included where to cross a road and how to cross safely. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The week ended with an exciting visit by the fire brigade to Klouter Wouter where children were taught about fire safety. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOn Monday we focused on the police\u2019s mounted unit who visited Snippie Snuiter cr\u00e8che, Tuesday the metro police K9 unit was at Bambino, Thursday Curro Castle was visited by our traffic department and we ended the week on Friday with the fire brigade visiting Klouter Wouter cr\u00e8che.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur intent was to educate our little ones around safety and at the same time creating awareness around the function and purpose of the different services,\u201d says police spokesperson Capt Erica Crous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe message we wanted to convey was that there is a superhero in all of us. Every child has the right to be safe, loved and protected. By educating them around personal safety (including medical, road and fire safety) we are empowering them with knowledge. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
