Two fires broke out on the evening of 1 July in separate parts of Parklands, one at a residential house and the other at the local retirement village, which sparked some concerns among the local community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, both fires were easily contained, and no casualties were reported. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTable View Neighbourhood Watch (TVNW) patrollers were on their usual patrol [in Link Road] when they noticed a large amount of smoke coming from the general area of Ravenscourt Road,\u201d Laura Outhet, spokesperson of TVNW said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Making their way to the smoke, the patrollers realised it was Riverglade Retirement Village that was on fire and saw an armed response company, along with local residents dousing the flames with water, Outhet explained. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTVNW patrollers put the call out to the control room at 20:49 [on Friday evening], where the control room alerted fire and rescue, and kept [the fire fighters] updated with how the fire was spreading,\u201d according to Outhet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
A total of four garages, as well as the cars in it, and two homes adjacent to the garages burned a significant amount, Riverglade Retirement Village told TygerBurger<\/em><\/span>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n One of the residents was also treated by community medics, Outhet added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIt is believed that an item caught fire in the garage where the fire had started due to a fridge which sparked when the power surged after load shedding,\u201d Outhed said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n When interviewing the retirement village staff, it became clear that a meeting had not yet been held, although one
