Kasselsvlei Primary School, located in Bellville South, launched a musical over two nights on 6 and 8 September, while incorporating all 700 learners of Grade R to Grade 7 in the play \u2013 \u201ca first for the school\u201d, explained Frank Agulhas, principal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The musical, which included tributes to Disney movies, such as 101 Dalmatians<\/span>, Aladdin<\/span>, and Lion King<\/span>, was about a dog named Dot that went missing in Bellville South, and the quest to find him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The search for Dot took place on the various streets surrounding Kasselsvlei Primary School, with a special focus on Greenlands, Peter Barlow, Stillwaney, Zimri, Dammert and Cupido.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Each scene was acted out by a different grade and represented a different Disney movie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The search started with the Grade R learners in Bellville South, which the learners dressed as Dalmation dogs from 101 Dalmations<\/span>, followed by the Grade 5 learners who narrowed down the search for Dot to Greenlands Street dressed as characters from Aladdin<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n After many obstacles in the way, and much deliberation as to where Dot can be, the Grade 2 performers, along with Ouma and Oupa \u2013 two main characters of the musical, found Dot unharmed in Cupido Street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The musical, directed and planned by all the teachers of Kasselsvlei Primary School, was fully booked for both evenings and seated 500 proud family and friends of the school children every night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe idea of the musical was to develop and grow a love for performing and acting amongst the learners,\u201d Agulhas said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The proceeds of the concert, which amounted to R105 000, was used to buy new curtains for the school hall, and were already on display at both the concerts, according to Agulhas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe concert was decided on in 2021, and all grades practised since term two,\u201d said Natasha Lyners, a teacher at Kasselsvlei Primary School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The learners of the school were divided up into two groups \u2013 group one performed on 6 September and the second group on 8 September, according to Lyners.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
