Compliance officers of the City of Cape Town regularly check on informal traders to ensure that they comply with bylaws, a representative said at the Subcouncil 3 meeting held on Thursday last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting was held at the Royal Ascot Municipal Building in Bridle Way, Milnerton at 10:00.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the meeting, under matters receiving attention, reference was once again made to an illegal informal trader who operates on the corners of Rothschild Boulevard and Plattekloof Road, Plattekloof in Ward 1 where there are no formal trading bays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shirley Alexander, district area coordinator \u2013 area economic development north \u2013 says they have been back to the spot where the trader operates, but during the last visit they could not locate the individual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sellers not trading legally<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Cheryl Visser, ward councillor, says though she has not received complaints from residents recently, it is concerning that the individual cannot be found, but requested that compliance officers expand their visits to the grass sellers along Plattekloof Road as well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visser says the area where they work from does not form part of the informal trading plan area either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alexander says in response that these traders are on their radar, as well and that they have been approached by compliance officers and told that they are supposed to apply online, if they wish to trade there. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They have also been informed that the area is not a designated trading spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alexander says they are aware of it and that compliance officers still do their rounds there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Traders complying<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In terms of Ward 5, which includes Bothasig and Edgemead, Alexander says the main issue still remains the site along Plattekloof Road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cQuite a bit of compliance is happening there. We have had good and positive feedback from the community there, saying that the area looks clean,\u201d says Alexander.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Miquette Temlett, newly-elected ward councillor, was informed that Alexander will be setting up a committee with her and that they will sit down and talk to her about the informal trading plan for this area.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
