A pupil from Elsies River High School recently won a competition for making a poster about how after-school activities can assist them in reaching their future goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Marisha Fortuin (14) walked away with the first prise as her poster best illustrated how she could reach her future goals. Her poster was chosen out of 80 others from all over South Africa and her prize included R500 for herself, a goody bag and also 10 000 books (study guides), as well as R10 000 for the Equilibrium Going for Gold programme. Her poster will be posted all over social media and will be hung in many schools libraries and other educational institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Carmelita George, one of the people involved with the programme, says it was brought to a hold when lockdown came around. \u201cAll the programmes stopped, but this year we are bringing it back so that the children can get focused again. We are dreaming of a society where young people fulfill leadership roles. These are the people that will bring real change in their community,\u201d says George.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to George the afternoons are great fun for the pupils and all the activities, although they are educational, it teaches many life lessons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
