This temporary bank account number is provided by the suspect. As soon as complainants transfer money into this temporary bank account, the money is withdrawn by the suspect and you will never hear a word from the suspect again,\u201d Madyibi says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-facebook-scams\">Facebook scams<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Madyibi says the complainants would go to Facebook marketplace where they would see a vehicle for sale. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe complainant makes contact with the seller who will indicate that a vehicle is an auction vehicle or the seller is a salesperson for an auction company. The complainant is made to believe that the vehicle does exist and is for sale. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe suspect would ask the complainant to deposit money for the vehicle. The complainant would however never receive the vehicle. The abovementioned is also applicable to puppies and cats that are being advertised as for sale,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-rental-property-scams\">Rental property scams<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Madyibi says people will go onto google to look for apartments to rent. On the website, the suspect would pretend to work for a property agency. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe complainant would be shown pictures of the apartment and also be asked to pay a deposit in order to secure the apartment. After this, the complainant would go to the address given by the suspect, only to discover that the address does not exist or the apartment is already occupied,\u201d Madyibi says. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-protect-yourself-from-fraud-scams\">Protect yourself from fraud, scams<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>These simple tips below will help you protect yourself and your family from scams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div contenteditable=\"false\" data-embed24=\"InfoBlock\" data-pos=\"middle\" id=\"embed_1089c430\">\n<div class=\"heading\">What you should do to prevent falling victim to scams and fraud:<\/div>\n<div class=\"text\">\n<ul>\n<li>Never respond to emails or cellphone messages appearing to be from your bank, that request your personal details. Remember that no bank will ever ask you to confirm or update your account details by email.<\/li>\n<li>Never provide your online ID, password or PIN to anyone and never write them down or share them.<\/li>\n<li>Do not save your Internet banking password on your desktop.<\/li>\n<li>Do not leave your computer unattended after you have entered your internet banking password.<\/li>\n<li>Always log off or sign off at the end of a session.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid doing internet banking in public areas such as internet caf\u00e9s, or on any computer that can be accessed by people you do not know.<\/li>\n<li>Change your PIN and passwords frequently.<\/li>\n<li>Put sensible transaction limits on your accounts.<\/li>\n<li>Only provide your credit card details to reputable companies.<\/li>\n<li>If it looks too good to be true, it usually is.<\/li>\n<li>Never send money or give credit card or online account details to anyone you do not know and trust.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>To report an incident, call 10111 or contact your nearest police station or contact Crime Stop
