Councillors praised the City of Cape Town\u2019s fire and rescue services at a Subcouncil 3 meeting last week for their quick and efficient response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The council was discussing the quarterly report for fire services for the months of October to December 2022 when they expressed their gratitude.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Anthony Benadie, councillor for Ward 4 which includes Milnerton Ridge, Joe Slovo Park, Sunset Beach, Summer Greens, Montague Gardens and Royal Ascot, were one of those who thanked the services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTwo, three weeks ago there was a fire at the vlei near Sunset Beach and I went to the scene where I met a lot of firefighters. I was impressed with what they did on the day and with how quickly they got the fire under control,\u201d Benadie said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Francis van der Byl, divisional commander at the Milnerton Fire Station, represented the services at the meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meisie Makuwa, councillor for Ward 104 which includes Dunoon and Killarney Gardens, also acknowledged the department. She said in December there had been a few fires which damaged shacks, with which the department assisted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThey responded quickly,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There had also been other fires in the community which they helped with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A woman who was about to give birth at home in Dunoon was also assisted by the department before the ambulance arrived, Makuwa said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Makuwa said her only concern is people who build on the water hydrants in the area, making it difficult for the fire department to perform their duties. She said vehicles blocking the road hampering fire engines from entering the area is another worry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Makuwa said she has already spoken to some of the residents, but that more education is needed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
