The first group of beneficiaries from a learner drivers licence training programme in Ward 19 wrote the exam on Sunday 2 April. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ward 19 councillor Ebrahim Sawant says he allocated R250 000 from his ward allocation budget for this year towards the programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sawant says the decision for the allocation came after he received several requests from young people and youth forums in the ward who complained about a bleak future as many are unemployed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
A group of 100 young people were drawn from all the communities in the ward to benefit from the programme. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Siyasamnkela Vutula from the City\u2019s urban regeneration department arranged a series of workshops for the trainees. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The training as well as the fee for the learner licences are paid from the ward allocation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI am confident of a good pass rate as these learners are inspired by the prospects of being able to one day drive to work or get a drivers job,\u201d Sawant says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The group of 100 were divided into two groups, to attend classes over four days. The first group started class on Wednesday 29 March. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The attendees are provided with transport to the venues (in Kuils River and Wesbank respectively) and also receive lunch. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
