The community of the University of the Western Cape (UWC) is traumatised and saddened about the death of a third-year student on Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kamva Dasi (22) was shot and killed on Saturday while on his way with friends to withdraw money at an ATM in Belhar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gasant Abader, spokesperson for UWC, says Dasi was shot during an armed robbery. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe have reached out and is in contact with the immediate family. The campus community \u2013 including students and staff \u2013 is in a state of grief. Counselling has been offered to those affected and our full support will be provided in all instances,\u201d says Abader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He says students who may need professional and confidential counselling and psychological services can contact the Centre for Student Support Services. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Ismael Arnold, spokesperson for the community policing forum (CPF) in Belhar, Dasi was walking with six friends when they were approached by a blue\/black VW Golf. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cFour men got out and proceeded to rob them at gunpoint. A scuffle broke out and Dasi was hit and died a few metres away from where he was shot. It is believed that three shots were fired during the incident,\u201d says Arnold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
