\u201cIt wasn\u2019t only about fitting in but rather standing out and achieving the goals I set for myself.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So says Rose Ilunga, a Milnerton resident, who believes that women can break free from society\u2019s expectations and stereotypes instead and embrace their individuality, standing proud in their own skin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With Women\u2019s Month still being celebrated, Rose says as a woman, self-celebration helps to foster increased self-confidence and self-worth, empowering women to recognise and embrace their strengths, achievements and unique qualities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the road to being healthier and showing up for herself, Rose has signed up at her local gym in Milnerton. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMy main objective is to lose centimeters around my waist, as well as gain muscle; I want to not only feel strong but also look it,\u201d she laughs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This sparked her interest in searching for a fitness partner. Rose was looking for a gym that really spoke to her mindset and her body type.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI don\u2019t want to be boxed into a specific body type or size. My body fluctuates and my goals change, I wanted a partner that will be there to support me on my road to success; a partner that understands the value exercise has for all of us. It wasn\u2019t only about fitting in but rather standing out and achieving the goals I set for myself,\u201d says Rose excitedly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rose says her fitness journey has certainly not been a straight and narrow road; in fact, a roller coaster is a better way to describe it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As with many of us, at first, it was going really well for Rose, but as the journey progressed so did her need to look more like the fitness influencers you see online. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI was doing more damage than good at this stage in my journey, and I had to really have a pep talk with myself to get back to my coach\u2019s plan to achieve my goals,\u201d says Rose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cGoing to the gym is not always easy. I am sure many can relate, but I always remind myself of the journey completed and the goals ahead and I celebrate the small wins. I love a little boogie on the music too,\u201d she laughs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
What really stood out for Rose is that an experience from her mom speaking negatively about her body has really motivated her to make the change. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSometimes I train purely to show my mom that I can \u2013 in fact \u2013 do it!\u201d she says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMy mom has been complimenting me more and more, which is kind and a nice change in behaviour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
