This is the opinion of Cheryl Visser, Ward 1 councillor, at the Subcouncil 3 meeting held at the Municipal Building in Bridle Way, Royal Ascot in Milnerton last week. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The council was discussing the report for traffic services. Ward 1 includes Plattekloof, Panorama, Welgelegen, Monte Vista and Kleinbosch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Visser says there is a lot of unhappiness around the issue with taxis and that a community meeting is set to take place in the coming days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAt the end of the day, the most offences are committed by residents and motorists as well. People need to look at their own behaviour. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe need to look at traffic, but we also need to look at our own behaviour,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Visser said motorists often skip red lights and drive down one-ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Arno Schr\u00f6nen, chief inspector at the City of Cape Town\u2019s traffic services who delivered their quarterly report at the meeting, was informed that Blaauwberg Road, Table View, is also a concern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He was told that there had been an increase in taxi violations and that an accident involving a taxi and motorcyclist recently resulted in the death of one person, by Karl Bodin, Proportional Councillor (PR).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bodin also says there has been a few near misses at other intersections in the area, and that the public are up in arms. People want answers from traffic services as to what actions can, and will be taken to reduce these incidents of moving violations, Bodin says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Schr\u00f6nen says the traffic services are aware of the issues and that they too monitor social media feeds where residents complain about traffic violations. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
