After a R3 million revamp at the Subcouncil 2 building in Kraaifontein, Speaker of the City of Cape Town, Felicity Purchase last week visited the building for a walkabout. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In October last year Subcouncil meetings were moved out of the chamber to the Kraaifontein Library after several employees that include Subcouncil chair Marian Nieuwoudt, fell ill with the same symptoms they allege were caused by bird mites and mould.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They experienced sinus symptoms that later developed into headaches, joint and muscle pain, brain fog and tiredness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During her visit Purchase, who in her office of Speaker oversees City Subcouncils, said she was delighted about the renovation work done in the building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt looks infinitely better than after the first inspection,\u201d Purchase said. \u201cWe want our facilities to look and feel good for everyone who visits here. Over time there has been a disregard for some of our facilities where we did not take enough pride in it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe want to change that. It is something we need to be cognisant of as it is our responsibility.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In turn Nieuwoudt expressed her thanks to the City, saying it was a roller coaster ride for the Subcouncil. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBut we endured,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis building needed a lot of TLC and we thank the City for having taken our concerns seriously. Subcouncil meetings were not easy as we travelled around from the library to civic halls. We know that this renovation was not budgeted for, but it had to be done and we got more than we expected.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The entrance hall, offices, bathrooms and council chambers were deep cleansed and extensively renovated. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
