The dates are set, and kitesurfers are eagerly awaiting the chance to showcase their skills at this year\u2019s Red Bull King of the Air \u2013 the biggest kiteboarding competition in the world, where riders will tackle the waves on Kite Beach in Bloubergstrand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This year, 18 riders will take flight in their fight for the reigns as King of the Air on 25 November or on any day after, depending on the wind conditions. The weather window for the kitesurfing competition is from 25 November to 14 December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The competition has become a staple event since it was first held in 2013.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This year, the talent is young and fresh with all eyes on Italian teenager Lorenzo Casati who returns to defend the King of the Air title. Local athletes Luca Ceruti, Jason van der Spuy and Joshua Emanuel will also take flight in the competition along with other international kiteboarders from Brazil, Columbia, England, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands and New Zealand. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mayco member for safety and security, JP Smith, says Red Bull King of the Air is known for its breathtaking jumps, exhilarating flips, and high-flying action. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The City is thrilled to support this event, bringing together some of the world\u2019s top kitesurfers, who showcase their athleticism, creativity, and the sheer joy of being out on the water. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAnd of course, the city itself plays a key role in the event\u2019s success with its stunning coastline, steady winds, and vibrant atmosphere. It\u2019s the perfect backdrop for such a high-energy, adrenaline-fueled event,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The uniqueness of this event lies in the reliance on optimal wind conditions and a good swell for participants to boost off. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Around 8 000 spectators line the beach every year, cheering on the athletes as they take to the waves with their colourful kites soaring above them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event\u2019s weather window spans over a three-week period while awaiting the best swell conditions to kick start the action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The three highest-scoring tricks of a kiteboarder will make up the kiteboarder\u2019s final heat score and determine the result of the heat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
