The Goodwood area saw a decline in crime detected because of police action \u2013 however, an increase was noted in attempted murders and robberies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This was revealed in the latest crime statistics on Friday 17 November by Minister of Police, Bheki Cele. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The statistics cover the period between 1 July and 30 September and compare incidents reported this year against incidents reported last year for the same period. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The same result was seen in the crime statistics for the period of 1 April to 30 June. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs saw a decline of 30,6% decreasing from 85 incidents reported last year to 59 incidents reported this year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Illegal possession of firearms and ammunition also declined with two counts less. However, this was not because of police action. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The statistics show that in the Goodwood area common robbery increased by 58,3% with 35 more incidents reported this year, than last year. Attempted murder also has three higher counts than last year, going from three such incidents being reported last year, to five incidents reported this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Robberies at residential premises also increased with four more counts than last year. In addition, a significant shift in malicious damage to property was seen in the statistics, which showed 12 higher counts, going from 30 such incidents reported last year to 42 incidents this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The theft of motor vehicles and motorcycles, as well as theft out of or from motor vehicles, has increased. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Only 28 incidents of theft of motor vehicles and motorcycles were reported last year and this increased to 50 incidents reported this year. Theft out of or from motor vehicles went from 86 incidents reported last year to a staggering 130 incidents this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There were also four more kidnappings reported this year, than last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
