Parents of children at JG Meiring High School took to the
\nstreets proclaiming \u201cEnough is enough!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Monday 22 January concerned parents protested in front of
\nthe Goodwood school to express their dissatisfaction with the school and its
\nmanagement, in particular the headmaster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur kids went through hell last year,\u201d one angry parent
\nrelated, \u201cwith issues ranging from no teachers for terms on end, fights where
\nchildren ended-up in hospital, cellphone syndicates and gangs at the school.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to parents this year has started on a note no
\nbetter than last year\u2019s, with kids not knowing where to go on their first day
\nand books not being supplied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTo date no timetables or teaching was taking place,\u201d
\nanother parent said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the major issues parents had was Grade 10 and 11
\nlearners being called by name over the intercom telling them that despite
\nreports telling them they passed they had failed the grade. The school had made
\na mistake on their report, and they did not progress to the next grade as
\noriginally stated.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Added to this humiliation for these Grade 10s was having to
\nmake subject choices again, since there was a shortage of teachers or none to
\nteach certain subjects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
